X-Ray Safety Glass

  • Over 40 standard sizes and all custom sizes available up to 48" x 96"
  • Permanently labeled ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Cat II requirements for impact resistance as required per IBC 2406 "Safety Glazing"
  • 2 to 4 working day standard fabrication
  • Many protective shielding levels available
  • Available with lead-lined frames for wall or door applications

Ray-Bar X-Ray Safety Glass is federal and medical building safety code compliant and always readily available as permanently labeled. Our x-ray lead glass provides the required impact resistance for door vision-lites, in walls within 24" of a door opening, in high-risk traffic areas, and for additional seismic safety, providing a clear view while additionally shielding X-Ray/Gamma radiation, and 95% of UV protection.

Ray-Bar impact-resistant x-ray safety glass is utilized "to reduce or minimize the likelihood of cutting or piercing injuries when said glazing is broken by human contact". Per ANSI Z.97.1-2009

*Ray-Bar X-Ray Safety Glass is NOT fire-rated, tempered, impact-proof, shatterproof or scratch resistant. Fire-rated designs are available upon request.

Per ANSI Z.97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category 2 standards, any x-ray control window occurring within 24" of a door opening and any vision lite window occurring in a shielded door must have impact-resistant X-Ray Safety Glass and be permanently labeled as meeting these required impact resistant standards.

Can X-Ray Lead Glass Be Tempered?

The simple answer is "No",as it is physically impossible to temper x-ray lead glass.
The reasons are that X-Ray lead glass will not survive the standard thermal-tempering process due to its natural low melting temperature. Also, due to its density and composition this glass will not accept a chemical salt-bath for tempering either.
The good news is that X-Ray Glass is not required by code to actually be "tempered", and tempered glass is not impact-resistant glass.
However Ray-Bar Engineering Corp offers X-Ray Safety Glass which is impact resistant and properly labeled and meets all current ANSI Z.97 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Cat 2 requirements per building code IBC 2406 "Safety Glazing".
These safety glazing requirements are for impact resistance for applications in x-ray shielded door vision frames or wall locations within 24" of door openings or 36" of the floor.
This glass is readily available typically in only 3 or 5 days.
Your X-Ray Glass shielding equivalency should always be ordered as providing the same level of radiation protection lead thickness shielding value as the door or wall partition that the glass/control window / vision frame will occur in.
*X-Ray Safety Glass is not tempered, fire-rated, impact-proof or scratch proof.
