RAY-BAR LEAD BACKED GYPSUM WALLBOARD is furnished as 1/2" and 5/8" Fire code gypsum board meeting Classification ASTM C 36, with pure lead sheet meeting Federal Specification QQ-L-201 f, Grade C, factory laminated under pressure to the back side of the gypsum panel.
Custom manufactured to customers specifications, typically available in one day/next day.
Shielding accessories for installation include a 2" wide lead batten strip for vertical joints and corners along with lead tabs or lead discs for screw penetrations, lead head nails for wood stud installations and sheet lead for backing and shielding of cut-outs for electrical, plumbing, medical gas or other penetrations.

Sheet lead backing must be equal or greater value as the lead in the wall partition that penetration occurs in.

For listing of In-Stock lead thickness' available, see RAY-BAR Sheet Lead Thickness Chart. For specifications, see RAY-BAR LEAD BACKED DRYWALL SPECIFICATION. Shielding requirements should be determined by a qualified health radiation physicist, SEE SHIELDING INFORMATION

Per the current NCRP Report #147(2004)1.5 General Concepts, states:
"Radiation shielding shall be designed by a qualified expert to ensure the required degree of protection is achieved".

"The qualified expert should be consulted during the early planning stages since the shielding requirements may affect the choice of location of radiation facilities and type of building construction. The qualified expert should be provided with all pertinent information regarding the proposed radiation equipment and its use, type of building construction, and occupancy of nearby areas. It may be necessary to submit the final shielding drawings and specifications to pertinent regulatory agencies for review prior to construction".

"The term "qualified expert" used in this report is defined as a medical physicist or medical health physicist who is competent to design radiation shielding for medical x-ray imaging facilities. The qualified expert is a person who is certified by the American Board of Radiology,American Board of Health Physics,or the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine".

*Please Note the above uses of the word "shall" is a requirement, and use of the word "should" is a recommendation.
*NCRP is the "National Council of Radiation Protection". *NCRP report #147 supersedes the previous NCRP report #49.

DESIGN/BUILD 6mev and 18mev Linear Accelerator Oncology Center

RAY-BAR Lead Backed Shielding is also available laminated on 15/32" or 23/32" thick Fire-Resistant Treated Plywood upon customers request. (This product is recommended for heavy shielding applications for added structural value, please consult with your structural engineer for proper specifications)

Fire-Resistant Treated Plywood is pressure impregnated deep into the wood to provide a permanent fire-resistant protection, unlike "coatings", which only provide superficial protection.

When Fire-Resistant Treated wood is exposed to fire, non-combustible gas and water vapor are produced, and a layer of protective char forms, which hinders combustion and insulates the wood against further damage.

Interior grade Fire-Retardant Treated wood has a low rate of fuel contribution and heat release, and it maintains structural integrity longer than other building materials such as steel.

Fire-Resistant Treated Plywood meets the flame spread requirement of all building codes which is 25 or less, as determined by Underwriters Laboratories in the extended 30 minute duration of ASTM E-84, "Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials." Each piece of treated wood bears the Underwriters Laboratories Classification mark identifying it as being produced under its Classification and Follow Up Services.

Fire-Resistant Treated Plywood is often approved as a substitute for non-combustible materials in applications such as wall studs systems and offers additional structural strength.

Please CONTACT US directly for more specific and detailed information on compliance with National, Uniform and Standard building codes

* IMPORTANT NOTE: Fire Resistant Treated Plywood should not be confused with fire-retardant surface "coatings", because test requirements and code definitions are entirely different for each. Fire Resistant Treated Plywood is pressure impregnated and carries a flamespread rating derived by Underwriters Laboratories in the 30 minute ASTM E-84 flamespread test, while coatings are sprayed, brushed or rolled on the surface and flame tested for only 10 minutes. Fire retardant "coated" wood is superficially protected at best, and it does not meet code requirements for structural uses.

LEAD BACKED BULLET RESISTANT PANELS
